Community Based Reverse Osmosis plant in Kisari Village of JhunJhunu Distt for the treatment of Saline Water.
Inception
Today we are facing shortage of good quality drinking water due to rapid industrialisation, population growth, erratic rainfall, high agriculture composition etc. As a result of which water table has gone down and quality of water has deteriorated. As per norms drinking water should not have TDS up to 1500 mg/ ltr and concentration of salts has increased. Membrane based Reverse Osmosis desalination process is ideal for removal of excess dissolved salts and it removes all kind of bacteria and virus. |
Today Reverse Osmosis is the latest and most accepted desalination process. |

Under Technology Extension programme of science village Bahadurwas, a pilot demonstration Reverse Osmosis plant for treatment of saline/ brackish water has been installed in village Kisari of Jhunjhunu District under DST, GOI funded project by Central salt and Marine Chemical Research Institute (CSMCRI) Bhavnagar. The pilot plant at village Kisari was commissioned and operational in year 2002, since then its operation and maintenance is being done by the village level committee and a system has been evolved by the beneficiaries themselves to bear its recurring operational cost. |
The pilot plant is an exemplary case of coordinated efforts to solve the local involving local participation. |

The functioning of this plant is based on membrane filtration principle by using a semi permeable membrane for the separation of water and contaminants, water pressure acting as drinking force. |
