State Remote Sensing Application Centre (SRSAC)

Remote sensing techniques ,in conjunction with ground surveys offers an EFFICIENT, TIME SAVING AND COST EFFECTIVE method  for ASSESSMENT of NATURAL RESOURCES on repetitive basis for PLANNING the developmental  ACTIVITIES of the State.

In Rajasthan Remote Sensing activities started with the establishment of Aerial Photo Interpretation Laboratory at Jodhpur as a part of Desert Development Programme to assist Soil and Water conservation planning in 1980.

Later on in 1985 the laboratory was transferred to Department of Science and Technology, Government of Rajasthan and renamed as State Remote Sensing Application Centre (SRSAC).

The technology comprises of application of three components,

1) Satellite data,

2) Air borne data and

3) Ground data.

The data products from satellite and aerial photographs can be analyzed visually and digitally. Remotely sensed data has relevance to major sectors of economy such as Agriculture, Forestry, Irrigation, Human Settlement, Geology through the optimal use of land, water, mineral resources.

OBJECTIVES :

bullet

To generate data bank and information system on NATURAL RESOURCES.

bullet

To undertake short term and long term experimental and operational remote    sensing  studies to IDENTIFY, MAP, EXPLOIT and MANAGE various NATURAL RESOURCES such as soil, water, forest, agriculture and minerals .

bullet

To collaborate/interact with national remote sensing institutes to carry out joint projects with user agencies for formulation and implementation of remote sensing projects for DEVELOPMENT PLANNING.

bullet

To Organize short term trainings, seminars etc. for imparting knowledge regarding REMOTE SENSING.

ACTIVITIES : The centre is working broadly on four types of projects :

1.     Department of Space collaboration projects : To get further expertise in the technology .

  • Integrated Mission for Sustainable Development (IMSD)

  • Crop Acreage Production Estimates  (CAPE).

  •  National (Natural ) Resources Information System (NRIS)

  •  Rajeev Gandhi Drinking Water Mission Related Projects

2. World Bank Assisted Projects :     To intensify ground water exploration and agricultural activity.

  • Integrated Water Shed Development Programme (IWDP)
  • District wise GIS development
  • Preparation and Printing of Ground Water Atlas of Rajasthan
  • Watershed Atlas of Rajasthan

3. State User Agencies       :   To implement technological inputs for resource management activities .

  •  Printing & Preparation of Resource Atlas of Rajasthan

4. GOI Funded Project

  •   National Live Stock resources appraisal in 10 DDP districts.
  •   Establishment of Natural Resource Data Management System (NRDMS)  at Tonk .
